It supports SMTP, POP3, IMAP and RSS protocols, has a built-in HTML editor that creates a fairly compact code, which in turn reduces the total size of sent emails several times. Supports all kinds of encodings, expands due to additional modules and filters advertising, as well as unwanted correspondence. The program's interface is based on the XUL technology developed by the Mozilla Foundation, as a result of which the interface on all platforms looks the same as that of applications developed for this particular platform. Mozilla Thunderbird 45 is classified as a long-term support version, updates for which are released within a year. Over the past four years, the development of new Thunderbird features has been carried out only by enthusiasts, without the participation of Mozilla employees, so new Thunderbird releases are quite rare. Mozilla Thunderbird is a mail and news client isolated from Mozilla Suite with many added features: spam filtering using Bayesian algorithm, excellent IMAP support, SSL support (including support for homemade certificates), filters, multi-colored multi-level quoting, the ability to download only headers from the server, support for one folder "Inbox" for multiple accounts, the ability to read news from News servers (NNTP) and RSS feeds, support for skins, extensions, customizable toolbars, spellchecker and all that.
For comparison: the popular The Bat! loses by the lack of normal support for IMAP, HTML, skins, which have long been promised by News.
